It’s finally official. Well sort of…

The true dirt of Major League Baseball is covering the league and its most popular stars. Players took steroids and it can now be confirmed with evidence. Multiple sources reported to Sports Illustrated a dirty secret about A-Fraud. Alex Rodriguez apparently tested positive for performance enhancing drugs during a random test taken in 2003. Testing that was deemed anonymous by the league and players association, became not so anonymous today.

Samples and records stored in multiple locations where seized by federal agents in an attempt to confirm the testimony of players summoned before grand juries. Samples acquired from Barry Bonds were leaked earlier this week; however the real black-eye for baseball came today. Baseball’s most notable and highest paid active player was confirmed a steroid user.

Oh, and that’s not the bad news. There’s nothing baseball can do! Under the terms negotiated by the league and union, neither can hold any player accountable for failed tests. This leaves little room for baseball officials to respond to the names that will soon be made public by other unnamed sources. At best fans will receive the “we are very disappointed” line that was issued by statement today.

I guess there is good news. Thanks to A-Rod and others who failed the random tests in 2003, we now have a reasonable testing policy in baseball. Unfortunately the damage is and will continue to be done.
